A Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprise (WFOE) is a Company with Limited Liability that is completely owned by the foreign investor. WFOEs were originally designed by the Chinese government for encouraged manufacturing activities that were either export orientated or introduced advanced technology. However with Chinas entry into the WTO these conditions are gradually being abolished. Representative Office (RO)
Representative Offices (ROs) (or Permanent Resident Offices) are usually established by foreign companies to engage in business liaison, product promotion, market research, exchange of technology and other permitted activities in China. Representative Offices (RO) are important as foreign companies may conduct business liaisons and coordination or engage in pre-operational market research.

Joint Venture (JV)
Joint Venture is a special corporate structure where a foreign enterprise enters into a commercial partnership with (a) local Chinese partner(s).
